OUR GOAL
To provide an A-to-Z e-commerce logistics solution that would complete Amazon fulfillment network in the European Union.
For many brands, maintaining a consistent price across all sales channels is crucial for brand equity. They often use a Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) policy to enforce this. However, when they become a vendor on Amazon, they quickly discover a hard truth: Amazon does not adhere to MAP policies. So, how can a vendor exert any influence over their product's price?
The Reality: Amazon's Pricing Algorithm
Amazon's primary goal is to offer the lowest price to the customer. Its sophisticated pricing algorithm constantly scans the web and its own marketplace. If it finds your product being sold for less elsewhere—either by another retailer or by a third-party seller on Amazon—it will automatically match that lower price. As a vendor, you have sold the product to Amazon, and they, as the retailer, have the final say on the selling price.
Indirect Strategies to Influence Your Price
While you cannot directly control the price, you can use several strategies to influence it.
- Control Your Distribution: The most common reason for price erosion is when your products leak to unauthorized third-party (3P) sellers who then list them on Amazon at a discount. By tightening your distribution channels and enforcing policies with your authorized distributors, you can reduce the number of sellers undercutting the price.
- Monitor and Report Unauthorized Sellers: Use brand protection tools and services to identify and take action against unauthorized 3P sellers who are violating your trademarks or selling questionable products. Removing them from the marketplace eliminates the low prices that Amazon's algorithm would otherwise match.
- Strategic Promotions: The price you offer in your own promotions (e.g., on your brand's website) can influence Amazon's pricing. If you run a promotion, Amazon may match it. This gives you a degree of temporary control.
- The Hybrid Model: Some brands operate a "hybrid" model, acting as a vendor for their core products while also using a Seller Central account to sell other items. This gives them direct price control over at least a portion of their catalog.
